Dene House, Main Street, Stillington York YO61 1LA
Dene House is a fine Grade II listed, double fronted mellow brick detached house facing the village green. The classic symmetrical Georgian front belies a much older house behind which are parts which probably date from the late 17th century. Dene House is cited in architectural documents as a building of historic importance in the vale of York. The accommodation is therefore a charming mix of well proportioned reception rooms and earlier beamed rooms behind. Many of the original architectural features remain with fine plasterwork, panelled doors and carved door cases, an Inglenook fireplace in the living room and the original King post roof structure in the dining room. Successive owners have appreciated the architectural merits of this house and have restored and enhanced it so the accommodation now offers comfortable and practical living with contemporary fitted bathrooms and kitchen.
There are pretty secluded lawned gardens to the side and rear of the house and vehicular access from Back Lane to ample car parking. Planning consent has been granted for the erection of a double garage, if required.
Stillington itself is a popular village on rising ground some 12 miles north of York. It retains an active community including general store/post office, pubs, village hall, primary school and sports facilities. The thriving market town of Easingwold is some 4 miles west with excellent amenities and a well regarded comprehensive school. |
