Helmsley is about 5 miles away and offers a very broad range of shops, pubs and hotels, as well as recreational facilities nearby including shooting and fishing.  Malton (11 miles) offers a connection to the mainline east coast service from York, from where Kings Cross is reached from under 2 hours.
