The Cottage, Crambeck, Welburn, near Malton, North Yorkshire YO60 7EL
This romantic Victorian cottage has many fine architectural qualities with its steeply pitched roof and ornamental bargeboard trim lacing the eaves. It lies in a quiet hamlet with splendid views over the wooded Derwent valley embracing the scenic York to Scarborough railway line and river Derwent.
• Detached, 19th century house close to Welburn village and Castle Howard
• Extended in the 1980s to create flowing, ergonomic space
• Good sized rooms and plenty of light
• Potential for renovation and extension (subject to consents)
• Wonderful countryside and fine walks on the doorstep
• Good access to the A64 trunk road
The Cottage lies at the far end of the village lane and is part of the original hamlet of Crambeck, the last house before the railway line. A charming cottage garden surrounds the house, landscaped, part walled and screened with topiarised bushes of box and yew. An area opposite, suitable for parking (small vehicle only), is available on long lease from Network Rail. To the rear of the property are some more outbuildings that now require replacement or renovation.
Welburn 2 miles, Malton 4 miles, York 13 miles, Leeds 40 miles. (Distances approximate)
The hamlet of Crambeck has Roman origins but more recently was developed as part of the Castle Howard Estate. The former railway station and coal yard, now part of Yorkshire’s industrial heritage, are still visible. Welburn, the neighbouring village, has a reputable gastro pub, popular baker, primary school and village hall. At least four excellent gourmet establishments can be found within several miles and all the facilities of the thriving market town of Malton are close at hand – (‘Britain’s hottest new foodie destination’ according to Waitrose). There is a direct rail connection from Malton into York and the East Coast network with connections to London Kings Cross in less than 2 hours. York lies about 20 minutes by car.
